Paint Table Saturday - VBCW BUF armour

I'm slowly getting back into the swing of painting and today I've managed to finish a small VBCW project - a French Char B1 tank in the service of the Chester branch of the BUF. The photos are pretty poor, mainly due to the fact I simply can't be arsed to set things up properly this arvo :-)

I've named her "Valkyrie" after Unity Valkyrie Mitford, an English socialite and fascist whose sister Diana was married to Oswald Mosley, founder of the British Union of Fascists.

In the background you can see I've made a small amount of progress on the supporting infantry as well. Hopefully they should be finished in 1-2 weeks, assuming I don't get distracted. Which often happens :-)

For those who are interested you can read more about our club VBCW project on my Port Sunlight 1938 blog which having been neglected for a couple of years is about to see some action at long last.

Cheers,
Millsy

Cobalt Peak Game Design is go!

Hi All!

Just a quick note to put the word out that I am now "officially" operating a design and layout sideline for gamers - Cobalt Peak Game Design.

Having cut my teeth on Wargame Bloggers Quarterly and Simon's To the Strongest! rules (plus a mountain of personal projects and small commissions for mates) I'm ready to start accepting commission work. If you are interested you can read more here.

For those wondering, I live in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Australia and "Cobalt Peak" seemed a better option than "Ered Luin" which I suspect has already been used somewhere else :-)

Cheers,
Millsy

Paint Table Saturday Sunday

This clearly should have been posted yesterday but I was distracted (in no particular order) by cooking, football, my cat and the television, none of which merits further explanation so on with the post!

Now I've finished a couple of commissions I've managed to find a little Me Time before I dive back in. That allowed me to finish off a unit of Snotlings for my Savage Orcs & Goblins army for Warhammer Fantasy. These were dead easy to paint and reducing the numbers to 3-4 miniatures per base allowed me to squeeze in a more rugged look to the terrain and also extend the unit to 8 bases.

The whole point of these pathetic little chaps is to provide a tar pit to slow down enemy troops. They are immune to psychology and don't break from casualties, so they will nicely tie up something nasty (like Nug's Beastmen Centaurs!) for a turn or two until I can smash them with something equally unpleasant. At the cost of their own pathetic little lives. Oh well, life sucks and then you die when you're at the very bottom of the Greenskin food chain....

I've got a bunch more stuff in the post at the moment and 14 old-school forest gobbo spider riders giving me the glad eye so expect some more stuff in the not too distant future!

Cheers,
Millsy

Still here! No, really!

Hi All,

Apologies for the resounding silence of late! I've been busy with a couple commission projects that have been chewing up all my time and which have not been "bloggable" until now.

First up is a painting commission for a mate's 40th birthday which is nearly done. You'll see the results of that in due course. Thankfully this is the last of the "surprise" 40th projects! I really can't complain too much as the whole crazed idea was mine to begin with...

The other project is the rapidly approaching first print edition of Simon Miller's wonderful To the Strongest! wargame rules, which I've been doing all the design and layout work for. Now Simon has chosen to reveal the cover I can do so too!

And here's a couple of sample internal pages...

You can read the full story about the print edition on Simon's blog, along with updates on the publishing schedule etc. as they become available.

On a side note, the work I've done for Simon is also a bit of a "dip the toe in the water" experiment for a sideline of my own I am starting up - offering commission design and layout services to the gaming community. More on that very soon too, but if you are interested in getting your creations turned into something more professionally put together then feel free to chase me down using the Contact Us form on the right hand side of the page.

Cheers,
Millsy
